“I don’t follow any specific doctrine but only my own sense of an aesthetic image.” A talk with Michael Magin – C-Heads Magazine

October 9, 2015 By achuka Leave a Comment

Michael Magin has been one of my favourite photographers on Flickr (where he goes by the name of Greatestdancer) for a long time:

Michael Magin photographs transmit a sense of calmness; a paused moment full of fragility and the subjects withdrawn into themselves. Many years ago while searching for an artistic expression he discovered photography for himself and since then has sharpened his talent for portrait and artistic nude photography. We spoke to him about his beginnings, his working process and about his interest in the loneliness you can feel when capturing landscapes.

Among professional photographers, Instagram can be a bit of a black sheep; however, those holding this belief may want to rethink their stance. We have spoken to numerous photographs who have gotten paid work through Instagram, and now, Getty Images has awarded three photographers $10,000 in grants to further their work.

The Getty Images jury was composed of TIME’s Director of Photography Kira Pollack along with photographers David Guttenfelder, Maggie Steber, Malin Fezehai, and Ramin Talaie. ‘What You Put in the Frame Determines the Photo’

August 14, 2015 By achuka Leave a Comment

A 5-minute video in which street photographer Joel Meyerowitz talks about his approach and mindset to making photos.

Meyerowitz believes that being aware of what’s going on outside the frame lines of your shot is just as important as knowing what’s inside your shot. Instead of photographing a singular object in the world, his aim is to capture the relationship between things — objects both inside his frame and outside of it.
