Hi
I founded ACHUKA way back in the summer of 1997, when my eyebrows were more closely the colour seen in the image above, having bought a book called Teach Yourself Web Publishing With HTML 3.2 In A Week by Laura LeMay.
[I wrote more about the early days of ACHUKA on its 25th anniversary.]
Well, it took me four weeks, not one, but by the end of that August I had a website and a whole lot of hits.
In those days there were not many sites dedicated to children’s books, particularly in the UK, and for a while ACHUKA became the go-to place for children’s books news and features about authors.
Things have changed a lot. Now there is a multitude of sites and blogs and vlogs all being extremely enthusiastic about children’s publishing. And I’m very happy about that.
In 2017 ACHUKA quietly celebrated its twentieth continuous year online and we’re now heading towards an astounding thirtieth anniversary.
As well as writing for ACHUKA I’ve been a reviewer for various publications, including The Scotsman, Literary Review and Times Educational Supplement and I’m the author of books about Melville & Hawthorne, Tennyson and William Cowper.
These days my primary interests alongside ACHUKA are photography and screenwriting.
