Make no mistake, this is not an easy scene to write well. So easy to overdo. So easy to underdo. So tempting to be either sensationally vivid or evasively poetic. |

Just to endorse everything the review says. This is a superb book and Gillian should be winning prizes with it. Reading the short extract reminded me again of how beautifully judged her writing is – nothing wasted, no excess, no sentimentality, just wonderfully balanced rhythms and perfectly chosen words.
