The Derby Telegraph reports on a recent visit by Charlie Higson to Derby High School
Charlie [Higson] believes youngsters can relate to zombies because they are just like teenage boys.
“The horror genre has also become more popular, especially among kids. Zombies and vampires share a lot of the same characteristics. They are two sides of the same coin, they are both undead but whereas vampires drink our blood, zombies eat the whole lot,” he said.
“They both have their own special way of being stopped with a stake through the heart or a bullet through the head that destroys the brain.
“A few years ago it was vampires for girls and zombies for boys but now there are girls who like zombies and boys who like vampires.
“It isn’t an exact split, girls got it into their heads that they would like to go out with a vampire. Some girls think that they are cool, sexy and sophisticated.
“Nobody wants to go out with a zombie. Zombies aren’t cool or sophisticated.
“They have greasy hair and a bad diet. Zombies are basically teenage boys.
“That’s why boys like them so much, because they can identify with them.”
