Vanity: Fashion Photography From the F.C. Gundlach Collection
National Museum in Krakow, through to Sept. 1
Franz Christian Gundlach (b. 1926) is a fashion photographer whose hundreds of covers and thousands of editorial pictures influenced what German women wore in the postwar era. At a time when collecting photographic prints was virtually unknown, he began to buy work by photographers he admired. As he told Magdalena Czubinska, senior curator at the museum, there were pictures he just personally wanted to have. The collection now includes tens of thousands of prints, and when he speaks about them, Ms. Czubinska says, he is “very passionate.” At 87, he came to Krakow from Hamburg to curate this exhibition.
