According to the Evening Standard, Susan Hill has defended The Times editor’s ability to find replacement reviewers for Amanda Craig:
Amanda Craig’s departure as children’s book reviewer from The Times continues to make waves. A letter of protest by children’s author Lucy Coats, with 425 signatories including Philip Pullman and Julia Donaldson, has been submitted to the paper but not been printed yet.
Meanwhile, in the absence of any comment from The Times, the lone voice of fellow novelist Susan Hill has piled into the argument on the side of the newspaper. Writing on Craig’s Facebook page, she’s protesting against the protestations. “The Times literary editor hasn’t killed Bambi,” she writes. “He is more than capable of finding good people to review children’s books in-house,” saying the salaried journalists are there because they are good.
“Whoever said no one else was capable of reviewing children’s books but you?”
