Notable recent successes include the exceptional sales of the Horrible Histories, Klutz and Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. Gavin's extraordinary commercial abilities and leadership in Trade marketing and distribution will be a great asset as we apply greater efforts to grow the Trade businesses globally.

I am so pleased that Elaine will be joining us. She is well-known and hugely respected within the children's publishing world Her unique mix of experience and skills dovetails perfectly with Scholastic's needs and she will be a great addition to our team.

Elaine McQuade said: I am very excited to be joining Scholastic and to be working with Kate Wilson and the talented team at Scholastic in the UK. For a trade publisher Scholastic has some unique and incredibly valuable relationships with key consumers of children's books that can inform the publishing and create books that really work in the trade. After such a long time, I will miss working at Puffin but I am also very much looking forward to my new role.

Elaine will be joining Scholastic on 8 August.
