Special Guest #9 ~ Keith Gray |
Keith Gray was born in Cleethorpes in 1972 and grew up in Humberston on the outskirts of Grimsby (where, at the time of the interview, he was still living). He went to The Lindsey School in Cleethorpes and after A-Levels took a Business and Finance course at Humberside Polytechnic. He hated it. Since then he has worked variously as a truck driver, a waiter in a Pizza Hut, a garden assistant in B & Q, a barman, a Virgin and Our Price record store assistant, and even dressed up as Billy Bob the bear at the Pleasure Island theme park in Cleethorpes.
He was shortlisted for the Guardian Award for his first novel, Creepers, which is coming out in a new edition in the summer of 1998, to coincide with publication of a third teenage novel.
In addition to From Blood; Two Brothers, Gray's second teenage novel, he has published a title in Mammoth's Suspense series, and a short chapter book in their Read Alone imprint.
As can be discovered from the interview, he writes with a cocakatiel named Baxter perched on his shoulder.
