Guardian review of

If a Tree Falls at Lunch Break by Gennifer Choldenko

This book certainly offers more to bite into than a box of doughnuts but it isn't quite a full three-course meal - more like pizza, salad and dessert. Yet it's an enjoyable read. And it's a great touch, indicative of Choldenko's quirky style, that you have no idea what the title means until the very last page. DIANE SAMUELS
