HarperCollins Children's Books Signs Soccer Star Mia Hamm to Picture Book Deal
HarperCollins Children's Books [US] announced yesterday that they have signed female soccer star Mia Hamm for a picture book titled Winners Never Quit! which will go on sale in the US this summer. Editor-in-Chief Kate Morgan Jackson signed the deal with Byron Preiss Visual Publications, and the book will be illustrated by Carol Thompson.

I'm afraid my first reaction on reading the title was: "Winners aren't tempted to quit!"
I see on reading the precis of the plot that this isn't quite fair; however, I don't know why they expect people to spend money on a moralistic book which states its moral in the title. Surely this would be more lucrative as a poster?
My usual custom when posting negative comments is to finish up with an undercutting statement about my own biases; but I really can't muster the grace even to hint that another view is viable here. Let the jocks play soccer and us geeks write, and we'll see who has the longer career.
