"Kate DiCamillo, the Minneapolis author of 'Winn-Dixie' fame, is back with a fairy tale featuring an unlikely hero..."
Tale of Despereaux to be published by Walker UK May 2004

Dear Kate,
I don't knwo if you answer questions here or not, but I was touched by because of winn-dixie and i just finished reading the tales of despereaux, a story I greatly respect, however I have a bone to pick with you. I am a mouse owner and I have had them since pets ever since the age of 5, but recently I encountereed a rat in a pet store and immediatly bought it. Because a rat is not as your book depicts a slimy smelly evil creature but a smart beautiful and wise one. I understand if those particular rats, exposed to filth and evil became what they are but not all rats are bad, in fact there are but a few even as bad as Roscuro, who was the niccest of all the rats. Please explain your prejustice against rats.

Dear Kate,
I loved Because of Winn Dixie and The Tale of Despereaux. I thought it was funny that Despereaux's ears were so big but his boddy so small. I wondered how Despereaux such a tiny mouse was going to rescue the princess.
Your #1 fan,
Megan

Hello!
I am a third grade teacher in Georgia and was wondering if my students could write you a letter. They have been fascinated by your book "Because of Winn Dixie". They have asked so many questions about you as a writer. I am trying to develop them as writers and instill a love for reading. Please let me know if this is possible.
